What is Sideboard?
Sideboard is a furniture piece used usually in a dining room for serving food, for displaying serving dishes such as silver, and for storage. A sideboard generally features a set of cabinets, or cupboards, and one or more drawers , topped by a flat display surface. This makes it convenient for holding food, serving dishes, and even lighting devices. The overall height of the tops of most sideboards is usually waist level but other heights are also available as per requirements. In traditional, formal dining rooms a sideboard, especially the antique style, is a desirable and fashionable accessory. Different woods like oak, pine, walnut etc. are used to make sideboards and given different finishes . Today, they are frequently ornamented with costly veneers and inlays and available in a range of decorative styles. Sideboards can also be placed in living rooms or other areas where household items can be displayed. |
